NBC Fires Matt Lauer Over 6exual Misconduct Allegation

The NBC host Matt Lauer has been fired over a s****l harassment allegation. He interviewed world leaders, hosted NBC’s flagship events and was one of the network’s highest paid hosts.

The fast-moving national reckoning over s****l harassment in the workplace reached the highest level of television news on Wednesday when NBC fired Matt Lauer, the co-host of its most profitable franchise, “Today,” following an allegation that he made inappropriate s****l contact with a subordinate.

NBC News told its staff it was firing Mr. Lauer some 34 hours after the woman and her lawyer visited the network headquarters in Midtown Manhattan to share details of her interactions with Mr. Lauer with company executives.

“On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate s****l behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer,” Andrew Lack, the NBC News chairman, said in a memo to the staff. “While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he’s been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.”

In a division-wide meeting with his staff later in the morning, Mr. Lack said Mr. Lauer’s involvement with the woman began while they were in Sochi, Russia, for the Winter Olympics in 2014, according to two people briefed on the meeting, and that their involvement continued after they returned to New York.

On Wednesday morning, Ari Wilkenfeld, a civil rights lawyer with the firm Wilkenfeld, Herendeen & Atkinson in Washington, said he represented the woman who made the complaint to NBC, but declined to publicly identify her. In a statement provided to The New York Times, he said:

“My client and I met with representatives from NBC’s Human Resources and Legal Departments at 6 p.m. on Monday for an interview that lasted several hours. Our impression at this point is that NBC acted quickly, as all companies should, when confronted with credible allegations of s****l misconduct in the workplace.

“While I am encouraged by NBC’s response to date, I am in awe of the courage my client showed to be the first to raise a complaint and to do so without making any demands other than the company do the right thing.”

The woman met with reporters from The Times earlier Monday, but said she was not ready to discuss it publicly.

Mr. Lauer’s ouster follows a head-spinning string of prominent firings over s****l harassment and abuse allegations, including the studio mogul Harvey Weinstein, the comedian Louis C.K., the CBS host Charlie Rose and the political journalist Mark Halperin. Still, the news of Mr. Lauer’s sudden downfall shook his industry and shared national headlines with North Korea’s ballistic missile test.

Mr. Lauer was a fixture of morning television, a presence in American living rooms for 20 years as the “Today” co-anchor but also as a face of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and the Winter and Summer Olympics, for which NBC is the exclusive broadcaster. The “Today” show caters to — and relies on — an overwhelmingly female audience, and Mr. Lauer is part of a cast that presents itself as a tight-knit family, with Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Megyn Kelly, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.

The “Today” staff learned of Mr. Lauer’s termination just a couple of hours before going on the air. Ms. Guthrie was visibly shaken when she delivered the news at the top of the “Today” show on Wednesday morning. Describing Mr. Lauer as “a dear, dear friend,” she said she was “heartbroken for the brave colleague who came forward to tell her story.”

Giving the weather report, a visibly shaken Al Roker said, “I’m still trying to process the news.” Soon after announcing the dismissal, Ms. Guthrie gripped the hand of Ms. Kotb, who was rushed in as an emergency substitute host.

Mr. Lauer did not immediately comment. The network did not name a replacement for him.

The move by NBC represents one of the few examples of a company taking pre-emptive action over s****l harassment complaints before any allegations had become public.

Mr. Lauer’s dismissal was seized on by President Trump, who went on to ask in a tweet when executives at NBC and Comcast, the network’s parent company, would “be fired for putting out so much fake news.”

Mr. Lauer is the second of NBC News’s top-rated stars to lose his job in recent years. In 2015, NBC News suspended its 6:30 p.m. “Nightly News’’ anchor, Brian Williams, for several months after he fabricated accounts of his own heroics, including a false story that he had been in a helicopter in Iraq that was struck by enemy fire. Mr. Lack has since given him a show on MSNBC at 11 p.m.

Mr. Lauer has had some notable stumbles in recent years. His interview of Hillary Clinton and Donald J. Trump during the presidential campaign was widely panned for giving Mrs. Clinton far rougher treatment than he gave Mr. Trump.

How to Watch the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

After weeks of mishaps, casting snafus, and one very annoyed Chinese government, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, filmed in Shanghai, is ready to air tonight on CBS as well as CBS All Access. Through all the drama that ensued, it was easy to forget that an actual show was taking place.

One with models including Bella Hadid, Adriana Lima, Karlie Kloss, and Alessandra Ambrosio (her last before retirement), along with performances by Harry Styles, Miguel, and Leslie Odom Jr., all of whom clearly survived without the originally scheduled Katy Perry.

This year Victoria’s Secret teamed up with Brian Atwood, who designed all of the shows for the angels, as well as Balmain, which created one-of-a-kind pieces like studded leather jackets and bustiers for some of the looks.

“We work at least four months prior to showtime,” Atwood told Vanity Fair via e-mail about his design process.

“Since everything is very intricate and detailed we like to have as much time as possible to develop and study what works best for the look and the show. We worked very closely with Olivier and the Balmain team on this show.”

Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing told British Vogue that he went with a punk theme while designing the garments, something a little outside his comfort zone.

Ross Lynch Touches a Scorpion, Hissing Cockroach & Other Weird Stuff

“There are so many reference points for punk, from books to editorials in Vogue,” he said. “I regrouped a lot of ideas I had in my mind for Balmain, as I channel a lot of rock ‘n’ roll in the collections.”

And it wouldn’t be a Victoria’s Secret show without a little controversy. Despite having to apologize for a Native American headpiece worn by Karlie Kloss during its 2012 show, Victoria’s Secret this year opted to include a “Nomadic Adventure” segment that features another feather headdress. As Fashionista noted, the looks, worn by Taylor Hill and first-timer Nadine Leopold, among others, include some eyebrow-raising “tribal” motifs as well.

While Victoria’s Secret’s Shanghai adventure started with models dropping out due to visa problems and ended with an after-party that got shut down by the cops, it was still able to pull together the annual event. For those too intrigued to stay away, the show airs tonight at 10 p.m. on CBS and CBS All Access.

Ohio State Vs Michigan: Dwayne Haskins’ emergence against Michigan has Ohio State in an eerily similar situation

No. 9 Ohio State was locked in a battle against archrival Michigan.

Late in the third quarter, the Buckeyes trailed 20-14 when their star QB, J.T. Barrett, went down with a knee injury and did not return to the game.

The Buckeyes were forced to turn to redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins, who had played sporadically during the season, but never on a stage anything like this, on the road, against Michigan.

Haskins was sensational, converting on a critical third-and-13 to keep the drive alive, leading to a score. He’d finish 6-of-7 for 94 passing yards, adding another 24 on the ground on three carries.

His new look, one that freed up additional carries for Ohio State’s dynamic running backs, along with a downfield threat that’s different from what Barrett offers, gave the Buckeyes just enough offense to hold off Michigan, winning 31-20.

Now, the Buckeyes head to the Big Ten Championship game to face Wisconsin with a potential playoff bid in the balance.

If this sounds pretty familiar, well, that’s because it is pretty familiar!

Lets roll back the tape to 2014. Ohio State’s presumed starting QB that season, Braxton Miller, missed the entire season due to injury, leading the Buckeyes to turn to their backup, J.T. Barrett (yeah, he’s been there a while). With the Buckeyes holding a 28-21 lead in the second half against Michigan, Barrett has to leave the game due to injury, forcing his strong-armed backup, Cardale Jones, to enter the game.

Jones, giving Ohio State’s offense a different look, preserved the victory (Ohio State would win 42-28), sending the Buckeyes to the Big Ten championship game against Wisconsin with a potential playoff bid on the line, though the Buckeyes would have to jump higher-ranked teams to make it in.

Ohio State would then absolutely plaster Wisconsin, 59-0. The 2017 Buckeyes play an undefeated Wisconsin next week in the Big Ten Championship.

The Buckeyes would jump Baylor and TCU, claim the No. 4 seed, knock off Alabama, and then win the whole dang title.

Are we saying that’s what Ohio State is going to do here? Well, no. The comparisons aren’t perfect.

I mean, for one, 2014 Ohio State didn’t give up 55 points to a 7-5 Iowa team, and this Ohio State team did. The 2014 Ohio State team was playing its best football near the end of the season, and it’s not totally clear that this Ohio State team is. And for what it’s worth, Barrett says he’s going to play in the Big Ten Championship game, which he didn’t do in 2014.

But it’s more than a funny coincidence, don’t you think? And it shows that the future is bright for Ohio State.

It’s really hard to overcome quarterback injures, even if you have a great college football team. Ask Clemson against Syracuse. Or heck, ask Michigan, which probably would have beaten Ohio State had it gotten better production from its eventual third-string quarterback, John O’Korn.

But they are there, no? Having a backup quarterback with the ability to stretch secondaries downfield gives Ohio State momentum ahead of a must-win showdown against Wisconsin. Needing a big win to get back into playoff consideration? With big wins late in the season potentially overcoming ugly losses earlier in the season?

If nothing else, Ohio State showed it has the personnel to overcome what would normally be a debilitating injury, given how involved Barrett is with Ohio State’s offense.

And given how young the rest of Ohio State’s skill position talent is, the future is once again bright for this offense. Haskins was a big-time quarterback recruit and looks like the real deal, so far.

Mike Leach could be a candidate for both the Tennessee and Arkansas jobs

The Tennessee coaching search is reportedly going in a bit of an unconventional direction. No, we’re not talking about Jon Gruden. reported Saturday that Mike Leach is in play for the Vols.

The buzz in the profession the past 24 hours has been that Mike Leach seems to have a very good s**t at being offered the position.

The expectation from those we’ve spoken with is that Leach would accept the position if offered.

FootballScoop went on to report that defensive coordinator Alex Grinch would be tapped by the Cougars to replace Leach if the offensive guru does move on. It was Grinch’s defense that fueled the Cougars’ hot start this season.

His marauding defense is a big reason why the Cougars are 6-0. He’s been described to SB Nation as an elite defensive mind with the personality to do well as a head coach.

And apparently it seems that Leach has at least some backing for the Arkansas job as well.

Our friends in the desert like Leach’s chances at the job as well.

Both at Texas Tech and Washington State, Leach has proved that he can win in unconventional places. That’s the sort of thing you have to be able to do to make it work in a place like East Tennessee or Arkansas which doesn’t have natural bases of talent.

He also was an offensive coordinator for two seasons at Kentucky. Leach would absolutely win the press conference. He’d probably win quite a few games as well.

Actress Naya Rivera charged with domestic battery

Former “Glee” star Naya Rivera was arrested Saturday night for allegedly assaulting her husband in West Virginia, authorities said.

Rivera, 30, was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery early Sunday following the incident in her husband’s hometown of Chesapeake.

She was arraigned at the Kanawha County Magistrate Court and released on bond after a brief court appearance, court records show.

Video of the actress in court showed her wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and handcuffs as she answered the judge’s questions, CNN affiliate WCHS reported.

The incident started when police were called to a Chesapeake home over a domestic situation, according to a criminal complaint.

When they got there, Rivera’s husband, Ryan Dorsey, said that she had hit him in the head and on the bottom lip while they were taking their child for a walk down a street, the criminal complaint states.

Dorsey gave police a cell phone video of the assault, leading to Rivera’s arrest, according to the complaint.
During a brief court appearance, Rivera said she plans to hire an attorney.

Domestic battery carries a maximum of a year in prison and a fine of up to $500, court records show.
CNN has reached out to Rivera’s publicist but has not heard back.

Rivera and Dorsey got married in 2014 in Mexico. Dorsey is a fellow actor, and has made appearances in “Southland” and FX comedy “You’re the Worst.”

Jordan Fisher Crowned Dancing with the Stars Season 25 Mirrorball Champion

Dancing with the Stars has crowned its season 25 winner!

On Tuesday night, Jordan Fisher, Lindsey Stirling and Frankie Muniz went head-to-head on the season finale of the reality dancing competition series, but it was Fisher who was victorious and took home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy after earning overall perfect scores for his final two dances.

Stirling was runner-up and Muniz was second runner-up.

Speaking moments after his big win, Fisher was lost for words to describe what it felt like to win, but had plenty to say about his partner Lindsay Arnold.

“We’re both just sort of blinded and perma-smile and stoked about everything right now,” Fisher, 23, said.

“There aren’t words you can use to express — there’s something about putting in 12 weeks of work and time and energy and blood and sweat and tears into something and being rewarded like this at the end of the day,” he continued.

“The Mirrorball is so amazing. This is so freaking cool. But the coolest part is having what we got to establish, a bond and trust and love for each other that exceeds so much in life and that’s a thing that I’m taking away from this for sure.”

He plans to put his trophy in the center of his family’s Thanksgiving table.

It is also the first Mirrorball Trophy win for Arnold, who has competed as a pro dancer since season 16.

Calling winning “insane’, Arnold praised her celebrity partner. “It’s beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I’ve come close and to finally take it with Jordan means more than I could ever say,” she said.

Fisher suffered a scratched cornea two weeks ago and Arnold has injured her leg so badly it was feared she would have to drop out of the competition.

The actor said the lead up to the final had been very hard going. “Yesterday was definitely one of the hardest days I’d say after our crazy team fall apart injury day between the knee and the eye that was rough,” he said after his win.

“I think that yesterday was a day when we both realized we just had to leave it all on the floor and that was going to be one of those moments that really counted and today was kind of about figuring out how to be as zen and calm as possible and realize that it’s out of our hands and hopefully America saw our journey and was a part of it and supported us and voted for us and they did!”

But their hard work paid off in the end.

“Your skills are just ridiculously out of this world. But what’s amazing is you’re an incredible dancer, an incredible performer, but what I’ve noticed the most that makes you stand out to me is what you’ve done with Lindsay,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said after Fisher’s final number. “Lindsay has actually grown as a pro with you and that is a testament to you. You are spectacular. And Lindsay, you made him spectacular.”

Head judge Len Goodman also praised Fisher’s talent and dancing skills: “I think you are the most complete male celebrity ever on Dancing with the Stars.”

Although 23-year-old Fisher was the front-runner all season, Goodman admitted ahead of the finale that he had “no clue” who would be named champion.

“This is becoming the war on the floor because I’m so excited about tomorrow evening because I have no clue who’s going to win! It’s just become a fantastic competition,” Goodman said after Stirling performed her freestyle dance Monday, when she earned two perfect scores.

Fisher, who previously starred in Hamilton and Grease Live!, admitted earlier in the season that he credits actor Corbin Bleu for inspiring him to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Bleu, who was the runner-up on season 17 of the ABC show, was paired with Fisher and Arnold for their Trio Night salsa number.

“From career to the look to the personality, it’s kind of like looking in a mirror. I remember watching High School Musical, he came on and I was like, ‘Whoa! He looks like me! I’ve never seen a mixed kid doing film and TV,’ ” Fisher said of Bleu, who starred as Chad Danforth on the Disney Channel production.

“That was the moment where I went, ‘That’s what I want to do. That’s what I want to do,’ ” said Fisher.

WATCH: The Cost of Dancing With the Stars’ Mirrorball Trophy

While Fisher continues to amaze audiences both in front of the camera and on the dance floor, his ultimate goal is to be a husband and father one day.

The triple threat, who was adopted by his maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather — whom he calls his mom and dad — told PEOPLE that his close-knit family has inspired him to one day start a family of his own.

“My adoption journey fully fuels my inspiration, my drive, what my vision of success is. My ultimate goal in my life is to have a family,” he shared with PEOPLE.

“I want to be an incredible father, an incredible husband and take great care of my wife and all my kids and do what I love to do during the day to provide for them,” Fisher said. “That, ultimately, is what I see as being successful. I just aspire to be even half of how wonderful as my parents are.”

But the DWTS journey is not over for Fisher and Muniz. Both the finalists will head out on the Dancing with the Stars Live! tour, which kicks off Dec. 30.
